Mar3Written by:Christy Leblanc 3/3/2009 Let's talk about the recovery efforts on the Bolivar Peninsula. Make comments. If you want to create a separate discussion topic, please register and login.
The Bolivar Blueprint plan, which offers various alternatives for moving forward and captures what has been accomplished so far, is now posted on both the county web site (www.co.galveston.tx.us) and Emergency Management web site (www.gcoem.org). Feel free to encourage your friends and neighbors to take a look. We hope to pick up the process again soon once we clear some of our other pressing recovery deadlines.
Thanks,
John Simsen

President H.W. Bush - Bolivar Ike Recovery Volunteers joined former President H.W. Bush and former Secretary of State James Baker III for the 23rd annual Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Spring Cleanup, which included beaches from Beaumont to Brownsville.
“As Texans, we may be down on the mat, but we are never down for the count,” Bush said to an early morning crowd. “Bolivar and Galveston and all of the coastal communities are coming back. And, mark my words, they will be better than ever.”
Officials expected 75 tons of trash be cleared from Bolivar alone Saturday, said Renee Tuggle, the land office’s statewide coordinator. By Bridget Brown on

Re: Bolivar Ike Recovery I would like to know why this Connie Hudac is bringing a class action suit against anyone - nobody brought the Hurricane or devestation to the area. It is part of living on the coast, it's not always salty breezes and sunshine. Get over yourself and put on your big gril panties and deal with life. Every area of the US and world has natural disasters to deal with. You want to bitch and cry about it...leave the area because we don't need whinners we need winners!!! By Rhiannan on

They are presently accepting Home Improvement gift cards for repairs to the church building. If you would like to make donations to the 1st Baptist Church, High Island for building repairs, make checks payable to First Baptist Church, High Island. We hope to see you there supporting our young people in their efforts to make a diifference in island community. Thanks By Dot Huntsman on

Re: Bolivar Ike Recovery I agree with Gerry. It is now November 2009. We just got a check from Wind Storm and it is not any where enough to rebuild. We were forced to move elsewhere because we can't afford to rebuild in Crystal Beach. We now have a very expensive slab. Thanks insurance companies! Rhiannan...obviously you still had a house after the storm and your possessions aren't buried under the sand or in the intercoastal canal. By Pat on

Re: Bolivar Ike Recovery I think the efforts to bring our lil piece of paradise back are coming along. Of course it's going to take years of sweat equity, constant cajoling with government entities and keeping an eye on the goal-to make a better, stronger infrastructure and urge our neighbors to return as soon as they can! We don't want ot turn this into Casino row or another housing tract for Galveston. Stay focused, do what you can and help your neighbors, just like we've always done... By Elizabeth on
