This will be the first time in 6 years that these lights have been fully functional, so people will not be used to them. Be sure to pay close attention when coming up to these intersections. Dear Friends of Texas Beaches
It’s time to make a difference! On Saturday, September 27th, from 9:00 a.m. till noon, the Texas Adopt-A-Beach Program is hosting the largest cleanup in Texas! Please join other volunteers by signing up to help clean up our beaches and bays. The cleanup is important for a healthy gulf coast, so help us keep our beaches, and our oceans, litter-free. Last year, we removed more than 414,000 pounds of trash. With your help, we can collect even more! According to the Ocean Conservancy, land-based sources contribute 70% of all trash found in the ocean and on beaches. The largest trash source is street runoff that fills storm drains connected to streams, rivers, and bays, which finds its way down to the Texas coast. The second biggest source of trash comes from beach-goers.
See you at the cleanup!

A healthy ocean means more than just a beautiful coast. A healthy ocean supplies the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. If the ocean isn’t healthy, then neither are we.

Specks on a Fly- “UBETCHA” by Ed Snyders
Rolling out a cast to the grassy edge of the salt-marsh settled my streamer right on top of a swirl left by a feeding trout, when, after a few quick line jerks, the reaction for the action "imploded" on it bowing the fly rod to the fight of speckled silver.
The Pelicanidae - Awkward Yet Graceful Pelicans by Ed Snyders
American White Pelican - (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) - Awkward but amusing to watch when waddling about on land, but surprisingly graceful to observe when in flight or water-born, the white pelican, as clumsy as it can be is as majestic as it is. The White Pelican are migratory birds, spending their summers northward and wintering southward, are rather large feathered creatures that journey to the Bolivar area around mid October.

Small Business Tools for promotion
I’m sure you are all aware of the national program to encourage everyone to shop local on Small Business Saturday (Nov. 26, the Saturday after Thanksgiving). This program was begun by American Express and was wildly successful in its first year. This year figures to be even more so. The Small Business Saturday Facebook page contains many tools and aids for local small business owners to assist them in promoting their business

Welcome To the Bolivar Chamber of Commerce
Bolivar is beautiful, beaches, bays, boating, birding, gulf carts, fishing and building. It's a bedroom community and oceanfront resort for Beaumont, Houston and Dallas and is becoming the Hamptons of the Texas Gulf Coast.
We have 27 miles of sandy beaches. Much of the land is undeveloped and protected by the state and the audubon society. You can drive your beach buggie (gulf cart) the entire length of the peninsula which has become a way of life for many in the community.
Bolivar is the home of popular Crystal Beach and so much more. Bolivar is business at its best and offers a family oriented relaxed lifestyle. Discover Bolivar and you'll never want to leave, best of all, Bolivar is affordable and offers oceanfront opportunities found nowhere else in the United States.
The Bolivar Peninsula is a world unto itself. A narrow strip of land running parallel to the upper southeast Texas coast, bounded one one side by Galveston Bay and the other by the Gulf of Mexico.
